Mona, are you returning to us? This month’s update has us excitedly wondering where Mona is headed Mona is halfway between Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Windward Islands, could she be returning to nest this year? (Leatherbacks generally skip a year or two after nesting). We’ll have to see if she enters the Caribbean Sea over the next few weeks to see if she’s going to make it two years in a row for nesting! Carol and Sunshine, the other two turtles we are still actively tracking, also swam south after the holidays, but Sunshine has taken up her foraging location from last summer in Florida, while Carol has swung back north and is likely headed to waters off Nova Scotia, Canada, for the remainder of the year.
You can track our turtles every day on our website (free) and if you’d like to sponsor them, or find out more information, you can do that too
The St. Croix Sea Turtle Project is sponsored by The Ocean Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, in cooperation with US Fish and Wildlife Service at Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.
