Turtle Watch Ongoing at Sandy Point since at least 1997, this unique program engages St. Croix youth, children, and family groups in learning about leatherback sea turtles. Join us Friday or Saturday evenings in April for a presentation in our education pavilion and learn about our biggest turtles – the leatherbacks! Then, migrate to the beach to observe the wonders of Sandy Point at night: enjoy the stars and listen to a talk on leatherback biology and how Sandy Point’s research program has contributed to the conservation of the species – you’ll also meet our research team in action. Over the years, countless students and young people of St. Croix have watched a nesting leatherback sea turtle at Sandy Point. While the sighting of turtles is not guaranteed, your visit is certain to leave you inspired and committed to support leatherback conservation.
Our 2026 season is now completely full. Please note that the demand for Turtle Watch far exceeds the supply of dates so applications will be prioritized from St. Croix full-time residents (youth and children’s groups). Ideal group size is 12-15 people and total program size will be around 30 people.
For questions, please contact us at sandypoint.turtlewatch @ gmail.com). Please allow 3 business days for a response.
Turtle Watch is a free program for St. Croix residents, but donations for Outreach & Education are always appreciated.

The St. Croix Sea Turtle Project is sponsored by The Ocean Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, in cooperation with US Fish and Wildlife Service at Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.
