Volunteer with us!

Our volunteers are really valuable to our programs and projects! Volunteers help with everything – and every day is different! Assignments may include patrolling for sea turtle nests or nesting turtles, conducting nest inventories, releasing hatchlings, rescuing nesting turtles, responding to strandings around the island, planting native trees or removing invasive vegetation, and data entry. It may sound glamorous, but it’s often really hot, super buggy and very tiring!

So if that sounds fun to you, to be notified of upcoming trainings or one-day volunteer events at Sandy Point, please tell us a little about yourself!

If you are a St. Croix student (high school or college), we would love to hear from you! You may be able to fulfill your graduation service hours requirements with us – and there may be opportunities for summer employment as well.

We run short-term events like beach cleanups, and native tree plantings, but we have several longer term programs as well.

For those interested in long-term volunteer opportunities, we expect to do training sessions a couple times a year. These will be rather intense because of the amount of training needed to work with endangered species. A regular and firm time commitment is needed from all long term volunteers! Thank you so much for your interest!

Please note that we don’t always have positions available, but if we do, we’ll be sure to let you know!

**If you are interested in our programs to see a nesting turtle or a hatchling release in summer 2021, please look at the Turtle Watch page on our website.

The St. Croix Sea Turtle Project is supported by the Sea Turtle Census Initiative, which is sponsored by  The Ocean Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, based in Washington, D.C., but working globally to protect our oceans.

All photos on this website were taken under appropriate Endangered Species Permits during the course of approved research. No photos may be reproduced, or copied and used without permission. Thanks!
